"Massah's got me Working....."
Apr. 22nd, 2007 04:36 pmScary having Energy. Got ¾ of the house Cleaned and did some Planting in the yard. Spring’s coming on “Gangbusters” here. Have about one meal left in the Carrot patch(can’t Recommend the White Carrots enough. Sweet as Candy and the Ancestral form. Orange Carrots have been around only a couple hundred yrs;>) and all the other Winter crops are gone except the Garlics. Planted a bit of Chinese Cabbage that’ll be ready about the time the Garlic’ll be ready for Harvest.
Going to have to leave the Peppers, Tomatoes and Squashes in the greenhouse longer than normal since we’ll be gone 9 days to the family reunion and it’s the only timer-watered spot, along with the Taro/Malanga. Looks like a “Wash” this yr for Pomegranates, Quinces and Pink Lemons. The last Cold snap seems to have taken care of that. The Kumquats, Meyer Lemons and Figs haven’t Bloomed yet but I’m Worried about the Apple. It’s a Heirloom(one of those Grown by Jefferson at Monticello) but as Winters have been getting Warmer, our “Chill Hrs” have been getting smaller and we haven’t had one with more than 500 in over 6 yrs. The last two it didn’t Bloom and this yr it hasn’t broken Dormancy.
Planting the Wildflowers and the Red Clover was a good Idea and definitively one I’ll repeat next yr. The Clover’s taken care of all the Weedy areas as well as giving an Incredible Display that’s just coming to an end. Mowing after next will include them and so spread their Seeds. The Texas Phlox and Firewheels especially make the driveway look good!
Have to remember to lock the screen doors now. I never did before because, well, they’re not exactly Defensive but tow days ago I came out of the bathroom to find an Illegal in my Living Room. Apparently, he wanted to mow my lawn and since the door was open(though the screen door was closed….), he just came in. I guess in his home village if a door is unlocked, it means you wish company. I can’t Afford AC so I guess if I leave a room with an outside door, I have to make sure it’s Locked from now on.
Unlike my neighbors, I get them quite often asking to do yardwork since I Grow things in what could be loosely called “English Cottage”. The Idea that plants grow best surrounded by other plants and not by huge moats of ground up trees is Alien to them, as well as my Home Depot neighbors. Besides, doing the Work myself is good for me, Spiritually as well as Physically and Financially. And if I didn’t I’d sure as Hel Hire a Citizen…
Troth,
Pat
